Chills and fever develop on occasion In order to get a urine sample for a lab test, extreme care should be taken to collect the urine in midstream. This is necessary to prevent contamination with organisms at the opening of the urethra. The lab test will either be simple or more involved. The simple test will be for the presence of bacteria while the more detailed test will be a culture for identification of the specific organism that is causing the infection. How long should it take for the homeopathic treatments to cure my UTI?

  • Running out of time asked on Tue, 05 Feb, 2008
This is day 3 of the UTI (and UTI treatment). I have been taking 2 cranberry pills, a green foods vitamin, 2 probiotics, oregano oil, and a liquid diuretic with every meal and I am still p*ssing razors. A also have been drinking a minimum of 1 cups of water a day. How long should it be before I start to see results?
  • Growl replied on Tue, 05 Feb, 2008
Who knows? Homeopathic treatments sometimes appear to work, other times not. Antibiotics almost always work and usually much faster.
  • old cat lady replied on Tue, 05 Feb, 2008
Nothing you are taking is "homeopathic". If there is a true infection you had best have a blood analysis to determine your white blood count. You might need an antibiotic to clear it.

basic UTI treatment involves drinking as much cranberry juice (the real deal, not water with cranberry flavor) as you can hold(it prevents the bacteria from sticking to your bladder walls) and lots of water as well. If you do this at very first symptom, you can sometimes clear it up. Still peeing razor blades means a doctors visit but even then you can still drink the cranberry juice because it stops the razor blade pain while the antibiotic is working.

The question is how many cranberry pills are you taking daily? I have never heard of taking probiotics or oregano oil for UTIs. Get off everything but the cranberry pills and take two of them everyday and lots of water, take two pills everyday for three days, your UTI should start to clear, but continue on with this for five days, if it does not correct its self then there is something else wrong also. The oregano oil is for infections but usually for strip throat, and the proboitics are for your bowel to put health micro-flora into your intestines, the probiotics are probably causing the cranberry to be interrupted and not able to fully work. Cranberry works every time I use it this way and it completely heals the UTI. I hope this helps you.

It really depends on a few things... the dosages/formulation, how bad the infection was, and how well your body responds to the products. Also, while those supplements may be natural, they aren't really Homeopathic (a common misconception). All the ingredients you mentioned are very good to maintain a healthy internal ecology and definitely helps for Urinary Tract health. However, if the infection is so bad that it feels like razors, you may need an antibiotic to kill the infection, then take the supplements to help "repair the damage" and prevent infections from occurring in the future. After all, supplements are typically best for preventative measures, not curing diseases (even though some people use it for that and they may help). If it hurts that bad after a week and doesn't feel like it's getting any better, you need to see a doctor.... actually, if it hurts that bad, you may want to schedule an appointment for your doctor for a week from when you started, then cancel it if you feel better. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!
